Bridal jewels of 2013

The royal Polki jewellery found a lot of space around the necks of brides post the release of Jodhaa Akbar in 2008. Aishwarya’s queen like attire and lavish accessories brought the style back from the yore.

However, it’s time to go back to the evergreen and ever-so-elegant diamonds. A girl’s best friend, they stay with the bride for the rest of her life too, as they can never go out of fashion. So, the stylists and ace fashion designers vehemently suggest that brides should stick to diamonds for the choice of their wedding attire.

Since my cousin’s getting married next month, amid all the hoopla and excitement in the family — her’s being one of those Big Fat Indian Weddings — she asked me to accompany her to decide on her wedding trousseau. After a long session with lehengas, we went on to the task of deciding the jewellery she should wear.

Phew! A myriad designs in a myriad selection of gems. Jewellers, of course, telling us how polki is the “in” thing while peacock designs were what today’s brides are swooning over.
